RTE pay: an utter disgrace and everybody knows it
The proposed 30 per cent cut in the salaries of RTE's top stars is too late, and too little, writes Louis Jacob
NOEL Curran's announcement on RTE pay cuts is about three years too late and it still doesn't address the issue of our overpaid 'stars' in any meaningful way.
More than three years since the Celtic Tiger was officially declared dead, and RTE has finally learned what successive draconian budgets made clear to the rest of us ages ago. Namely, it pays its stars way too much.
The public's gaze will be firmly fixed on RTE's big guns, Pat Kenny Marian Finucane and Joe Duffy, as they now decide for themselves what they are worth, and see if it falls in line with their actual value in an economy which has been steadily imploding for three long years, while they have continued to live in luxury 'la la' land.
