Ronald Quinlan: Labour failing to walk the walk as retailers go under

Party has broken its election pledge to deal with upward-only rent reviews.

AS an election campaign photo opportunity, let's just say it could have been handled better.

For a start, Pat Rabbitte's media advisers could have given him slip-ons to try on, rather than leave him struggling with shoe laces and looking like he's about to burst his shirt, and possibly more besides.

But as with so many of the stunts that political parties tend to pull in the run-up to election day, any embarrassment that Mr Rabbitte's stop off at Korky's shoe store on Dublin's Grafton Street might cause him later on could be justified once Labour got its hands on the reins of power.
