Please don't waste this chance to prosecute

We owe it to Veronica's memory to bring Traynor home to face charges, writes her brother Jimmy Guerin

The arrest of convicted criminal John Traynor allows the authorities in Ireland an opportunity to prosecute another member of the Gilligan gang -- responsible for the murder of my sister Veronica in June 1996.

This is the second time that Traynor has been lifted in Holland, the first being in 1997 when he was snatched from the streets along with murderer Brian Meehan. On that occasion the authorities here secured the extradition of Meehan, who was found guilty of Veronica's murder and is serving life in prison.

To this day Meehan remains the only person successfully prosecuted for this terrible crime. In 1997 a lot of people believed that not extraditing Traynor was a lost opportunity. It seemed unjust that one of the gang involved in her murder had slipped away. It is time to correct that injustice.
