Petty political rivalries cast shadow over nation's future
THE Irish would fight with their toenails. There aren't many certainties around at the moment but that is one of them.
During a week in which we were on the verge of imploding and exploding -- further devastating our own economy and that of the wider EU -- the major news domestically centred around fallouts, heaves, coalition disintegration, internecine wrangling in Cabinet, and political jockeying for position in what is now the teeth of a General Election.
There was also the full and quite frightening realisation that Fianna Fail (at least the senior members of the party) are intent on facing into the General Election almost as if they were responsible for none of what has gone on.
