As the Sinn Fein president greeted the queen yesterday, his thoughts were dominated by the political message he was sending. But the queen largely treated the handshake as she would any other.
Mr McGuinness wanted to make sure that when the photograph appeared in newspapers, it would create the impression that the two of them were really getting on. However, the picture doesn't tell the full story.
