WHY are the four in every 10 motorists who pay to use the M50 subsidising the road for the vast majority?

It's hardly fair that someone taking a short trip from Lucan to Blanchardstown has to pay, yet a Wicklow native can drive from Bray to Liffey Valley – a far longer journey – and not hand over a cent.

But Transport Minister Leo Varadkar is of the view that sharing the burden isn't the way forward – at least not now.
