Paul Melia: It's a rare thing when somebody in public life speaks so honestly

WHILE many communities that are threatened with high-voltage power lines may be furious at the comments made by John O'Connor, they should at least appreciate his honesty.

Like most people, Mr O'Connor doesn't want to live beside a pylon stretching 45 metres into the air. But that doesn't mean he won't oversee their construction across the country.

It's not very often that companies involved in unpopular projects come out and tell people that they're a nuisance.
