Paul Melia: Despite it all, we still dream of own place

OUR love affair with property continues apace – despite seeing friends and family straddled with hefty mortgages and struggling with negative equity, most thirtysomethings dream of owning their own home.

A staggering 84pc of 30-to-39-year-olds quizzed for the Irish Independent/Today FM Behaviour and Attitudes survey expect to own their own house or apartment over the coming years.

And some 88pc of women, compared with 79pc of men, said they expected to buy a property.
