Paul Melia: A public weary of taxes and levies will have to be given a fair deal
THE Government has three decisions to make in the coming weeks which will affect more than 1.35 million households across the State.
How much "free" water should each get, how should families on low incomes be helped and what measures will be put in place to help those with medical conditions requiring the use of large volumes of water.
If the public thinks the wrong decisions are taken, the Government will take a massive political hit. Everybody is tired of paying extra taxes and levies, and if water charges are not perceived as being fair and evenly spread, voters will take their anger out at the ballot box.
