Only an immature society turns its back on vulnerable
It's probably my age, but there isn't a month goes by that I don't know someone who is receiving some sort of fertility treatment. If you're looking for a business that is recession-proof, this is it.
Mostly it's a phone call from a friend of a friend who's just got their first appointment with an IVF clinic. They're calling me because I've been there and done that. I will happily give my thruppence worth about a treatment that can be truly amazing when it works, but when it doesn't and there is no baby, feels so cruel that it should be outlawed under the UN Convention Against Torture.
I like to concentrate on the positive because as well as the stories of IVF failure I know of lots of happy endings, not least a baby due to arrive in the world next week to thrilled parents who became pregnant after just one round of IVF.
