Old cutbacks take a long time to heal

By KIERAN McGRATH

YESTERDAY THE nation was justifiably shocked by reports that a 16-year-old girl in the care of the Eastern Regional Health Authority (ERHA) and who was the victim of the most savage sexual and physical violence, was essentially homeless.

Last night the ERHA announced that a hostel place had been found for her and in a week or ten days she will receive `24-hour care' in a house specially rented for her.

Perhaps we should not be so shocked by this case, as the circumstances evoke a strong sense of deja-vu.
