No matter how it is made up, missing the mascara is hardly an act of 'courage'

Giving till it hurts is no longer fashionable. Celebrity philanthropists used to delight in showcasing their physical strength, as well as their humanitarian splendour. Sponsored marathons, swims and hikes were among the demanding endeavours undertaken by vigorously benevolent stars who understood the nature of the charidee transaction: no pain, no gain.

However, a new fundraising venture suggests that the beautiful people are no longer prepared to exert themselves. Soap and water, it seems, is the new blood, sweat and tears.

Bray-born MTV presenter Laura Whitmore is among several glamorous female luminaries who are attempting to rend the public's heartstrings by forgoing make-up for a day.
