For the second time in just nine months, the body representing rank-and-file gardaí finds itself at the centre of a storm that has unleashed a new chain of political consequences.

Nobody needs to be reminded of the events of last November when the Garda Representative Association (GRA) came incredibly close to making history by instructing its 10,500 members to embark on an all-out strike.

Rank-and-file gardaí still ask themselves if a once-in-a-generation opportunity was missed, one that could have resulted in drastically improved pay and conditions for the next set of recruits to graduate from Templemore.
