THERE can hardly be a person in the country who was unaware that Love/Hate, arguably the best series ever to have been made in this country, made it's debut on to an international stage last week. It aired last Wednesday in the UK to almost unanimously positive reviews.

It's only a first step in the story of this show, feted as Ireland's answer to The Wire, and putting us on the map as a country producing quality drama to match the Scandinavians. Discussions with American networks are already under way.

What fewer people might have known is that the person that has been charged with marshalling Love/Hate from page to production is a woman, a visionary in the mould of Kathryn Bigelow. Not just that, but one who started this journey as a single mother, and who has overcome tremendous personal and professional challenges to get to where she is now.
