Mother Teresa's inner doubts endear in our uncertain age
NEWS that Mother Teresa suffered a 40-year-long crisis of faith during which she sometimes doubted even the existence of God will bring much comfort to atheists. Not that they need much, what with the slew of best-sellers on our shelves reassuring them that God really, really doesn't exist.
Stories of how people came to lose their faith or doubt their faith are much more popular these days than stories of how people came to believe in God, or else were constantly nagged by the suspicion that maybe, after all, he exists.
But such stories are plentiful and include some very prominent atheists and agnostics.
