Michael Brennan: Budget is Government's last chance to get it right

THE sight of ministers arriving in their state cars for cabinet meetings telling us that "everything is on the table" has become wearily familiar.

Some people, more worried about putting food on the table, may be tempted to switch off and hope that all the talk of spending cuts and tax increases goes away.

But last night's cabinet meeting in Farmleigh House in the Phoenix Park in Dublin and today's all-day meeting in Government Buildings do matter -- because they represent the Government's last chance to get it right.
