Mary Kenny: A pregnancy for Carla would give Sarkozy 'baby bounce' in polls
IF Carla Bruni-Sarkozy is pregnant -- according to some reports, with twins -- at the age of 43, then all I can say is: congratulations. An excellent career move.
Madame Bruni-Sarkozy has been photographed looking distinctly in bloom, and she has not discouraged speculation that she may indeed be "enceinte". She has not confirmed it, merely smiling mysteriously and remarking that sometimes one has to be discreet about certain matters. And it has been noted that she has ostentatiously quit smoking her menthol cigarettes. But if she is in the early stages of a pregnancy, she is wise not to be too confident about confirming it.
The first three months after conception are always the most vulnerable to miscarriage, and Carla's age is also a risk factor.
