Marie Murray: The entire nation is hurt, insulted and aggrieved on BOD's behalf

We should have seen it coming. Think of the shock when Brian O'Driscoll didn't get the captaincy of the Lions for Saturday's tour-defining Test match. It was a sure thing, or so it seemed, that the greatest player in the northern hemisphere, if not the world, would captain the Lions team.

He has won the Grand Slam and Six Nations with Ireland and three Heineken Cups with his club and, of course, the Celtic League with Leinster and, most recently, the Amlin Challenge Cup.

The only piece of the jigsaw remaining was the Lions, and this was his chance to crown a glorious career. Then he was dropped. To be dropped from such a height causes injury. Not just BOD but the entire nation is hurt, emotionally injured and aggrieved on his behalf.
