Margaret Donnelly: Trump's 'America First' policy could hit our farmers
This week will see the first real possibility of Donald Trump's 'America First' policy hitting home in Ireland.
A hearing tomorrow will consider whether or not the US should impose tariffs on certain EU imports - including beef - in a move that would hit Ireland's fledgling beef export trade to the US. Ireland is the only EU country that has sent beef to the US since a ban was lifted in 2015.
There are around 90 products from Europe facing new tariffs, and over 11,500 submissions have been made for the hearing to consider - beef is the main concern for Ireland.
