Maire develops condition known as the Pee Effect
IT'S not that far from Brussels to Dublin in terms of miles, really. Just a short hop on an Aer Lingus or Ryanair flight (assuming they're not grounded, that is).
But some Irish politicians who become seasoned commuters on the EU gravy-train appear to develop a huge disconnect between the reality of life in Ireland and that in the rarified bubble of Eurocrat HQ.
This is a condition called the Pee Effect. It was first brought somewhat spectacularly to the public's notice in January 1999 when Ireland's then-EU Commissioner Padraig 'Pee' Flynn appeared on 'The Late Late Show' and opened up his heart to Gay Byrne about the travails of managing three houses off a net salary of IR£100,000.
