Maeve Sheehan: Legal profession weighed down by rogue lawyers and notorious judge
The Justice Minister's radical shake-up will put the sector under even more scrutiny this year
FORTY-one solicitors have been struck off and more than 200 found guilty of professional misconduct since the collapse of the economy, a Sunday Independent investigation reveals. The number of complaints against lawyers also soared to record levels during Ireland's recessionary years.
Of more than 866 complaints against solicitors to their regulatory body between 2008 and 2012, 209 resulted in findings of misconduct.
The figures show how complaints against lawyers have increased dramatically since the recession. And the profession is expected to come under even more scrutiny this year.
