Lise Hand: What a sweet moment for Enda after a long struggle
There was a wobble in his voice, clearly audible in the packed and silent and oh-so changed Dail chamber. Enda Kenny looked up briefly to where his wife Fionnuala and his three children Aoibhinn, Ferdia and Naoise sat, but his gaze was also focused back in the past, at the beginning of his extraordinary journey which began with his father Henry and his mother Eithne.
"They walk with me every step of this heart-stopping journey," he said. "For me, and for Fionnuala and the children, they represent the nobility, decency and very soul of the Irish people and because they do, their spirit is with us on this important day," he declared and his emotion was so clear, and so understandable.
What a sweet moment it must've been for Enda Kenny when he took his place in the Taoiseach's seat yesterday afternoon. It had been such a long -- and often lonely and rocky road -- to reach this destination since he first took his place in Dail Eireann in 1975.
