Lise Hand: Raining cats and green dogs as Cowen visits the Windy City
'I see ya brought the Irish weather with ya," joked one of the parade's marshals as the Taoiseach struggled to get to grips with his nice big sash proclaiming he was one of 'The Sons and Daughters of St Patrick's Day'.
But in fact Brian hadn't brought 'the Irish weather' with him when he landed in Chicago on Friday. Brian had left behind an Ireland canopied by a clear blue sky and remarkably little rainfall. It wasn't his fault that Chicago had been basking in balmy weather prior to his arrival that promptly turned dreadfully grim for Saturday's parade day.
This, for a refreshing change, was one misfortune which couldn't be pinned on the Taoiseach. No wonder he was in such a chipper mood as he began his second day of engagements in what most definitely was the Windy City.
