'WHO has the biggest smile here?" our brand-new Taoiseach asked the three little girls who were taking part in a photo-shoot to launch Census 2011. But in truth, none of them did -- the widest beam on display in Merrion Square yesterday was pasted on to the face of Enda Kenny.

It was the morning after he had been elected Taoiseach of a country deep in recession and even deeper in debt, but Enda was having no second thoughts -- in fact, he was showing all the signs of a man determined to hit the ground sprinting.

It had been well after midnight when he finished up the previous evening. He ended an emotional roller-coaster of a day at an exuberant Mayo melee of supporters and staff in the Davenport Hotel, where he toured the rambunctious room, posing for photos and being battered black and blue from hearty skelps to his back.
