Lise Hand: Never mind dark matter in the HSE – twinkling stars bring out romantic in Enda

EVERY now and then the Taoiseach likes to unleash his inner Jean-Luc Picard, captain of the Starship Enterprise. Enda enjoys a bit of science and stuff about space exploration, and can get quite lyrical about the oul' stars and the like.

He dropped into the Science Gallery in Trinity College to launch its 2014 programme of exhibitions which includes one called 'FAIL – Does Failure Drive Innovation?'

And in his speech, Enda boldly went into poetical mode. "Many of the best scientific minds in history have looked to the heavens – how many times have we walked on a dark night, and the Milky Way is there to make us consider how mortal we actually are?" he mused.
