Lise Hand: Minnows like Seamus are left out in the cold

OUTSIDE Leinster House, snow fell as three men posed for the (lone) press photographer.

Seamus McDonagh, Workers' Party candidate in the Meath East by-election, stood between Richard Boyd Barrett and John Halligan, two of the quartet of TDs from the Dail's Technical Group who have endorsed his campaign.

Such is the lot of the Meath Minnows, the seven small party or Independent candidates who have thrown their hats into the ring. With most of the attention focused on the battles between the big four of Fine Gael, Labour, Fianna Fail and Sinn Fein, the smaller guys (and 10 of the 11 candidates are guys) garner little attention.
