Lise Hand: It's carry on calmly as Cowen lends a big, red hand at bash
Half of the Dail hot-footed it to be part of that rare bird -- a good news story
Brian Cowen looked dubiously at the glowing yoke that had suddenly descended from the roof of the stage of the spanking new Convention Centre. It was a big, red, life-sized hand on a computer screen and looked like something that had materialised on to the stage straight from the set of 'Doctor Who'.
It turned out that the Taoiseach was required to press his own lamh against it in order to "ignite the building". With visible trepidation, Brian pushed gingerly. With the way things are going these nervous days, he couldn't be sure that it wouldn't blow the €380m building sky-high and send the whole thing, high-powered guests and all, toppling into the Liffey.
