Lise Hand: Hurling abuse at Taoiseach does not put Upper House in good light
SO how do you convince an already deeply sceptical electorate that the Seanad is worth saving from the chop, and that it's a chamber of responsible, smart politicians who are qualified to keep the Dail reined in from excess?
Well certainly not by throwing the sort of boorish wingding displayed in the Upper House yesterday by Fianna Fail senator Marc MacSharry.
During the Order of Business, he launched an extraordinarily petulant attack on the Taoiseach. It was quite a tantrum, and the shouting senator accused him of "clowning around Europe", before Marc then accused the Seanad's cathaoirleach Paddy Bourke of allowing the Taoiseach "to urinate on this House and its members over the years", adding, "frankly he should bloody well resign".
