Lise Hand: First wound for Enda, thanks to Micheal and Ming

The Government's honeymoon period went home in an ambulance yesterday. Enda just wasn't feeling the love anymore -- in the Dail there was heated talk of broken promises; mutinous mutterings had begun to emanate from a couple of anguished Fine Gael deputies; and the first substantial public protest against the new administration made its robust debut outside the gates of Leinster House.

And at the heart of it all was that familiar battleground where so many politicians have met their Waterloo -- hospital closures. This is where the savage spending cuts bite the deepest in the community and yesterday's rally may have been the first demonstration of the 31st Dail, but there's no chance that it'll be the last.

By a grim irony, two delegations travelled to Dublin yesterday; a team from the Troika descended on the Department of Finance to ensure the National Hairshirt was still in place, and a convoy of buses arrived from Roscommon to protest the closure of the county hospital's emergency department.
