Kevin Doyle: The big day arrives with lots of promise, but little loot
Cast your mind back to this week 12 months ago. Fine Gael and the Labour Party were delivering the last budget of their five-year term and hopes were high that after years of austerity it would be a 'giveaway'.
There was €1.5bn to play around with and the promise from the then government was that people would feel the benefit in their pockets.
That figure is at least €0.3bn more than Michael Noonan and Paschal Donohoe will have available to them tomorrow.
