Karen Coleman: Sadly, this summit will be like previous ones – a stalemate of vested interests
TWO major issues are dominating the G8 summit which began yesterday in Lough Erne, Co Fermanagh. It is highly unlikely that agreement will be reached on either of them because of the polarised politics of the participating countries.
The first G8 challenge is to tackle global corporate tax avoidance that costs billions of euros every year.
That tax avoidance is particularly egregious for developing countries where transnational companies exploit their resources and workers and then choke them of much-needed revenues by hiding their massive profits in tax havens.
