QThere was much comment during the week regarding the fact that all the top jobs in the area of Justice are now occupied by (gasp) de wimmin. But one chap found himself grateful to one of their formidable number.

On Thursday, the media were invited at fairly short notice to the Aras to cover the presentation of seals of office to the two new ministers, Frances Fitzgerald and Charlie Flanagan.

One cameraman, due to a spot of confusion, was obliged to leg it up the long, long drive from the gates to the Aras, while lugging a bag of video gizmos. He was halfway up when a car stopped beside him. "Would you like a lift?" offered Chief Justice Susan Denham. The invitation was accepted with gratitude. "We had a grand chat," he said. One wonders would a male Chief Justice have been so kind . . .
