Bback in 1989, RF Foster asked why the Rising did not take place in Belfast – and no one really found an answer for him.

Why direct an insurrection against limp-wristed garden party-types who anchored HH Asquith's Liberal cabinet? Why did Tom Clarke & Co not train their guns on their real enemies – the Carson-Craig-UVF faction?

Imagine if Clarke had led his men into Belfast City Hall that April or they had trekked all the way out to Stormont to make their point!
