Abortion, and to a far lesser extent Alan Shatter, may be the rough beasts that have dominated the political savannah over the last month.
However, in the wake of last week's emotive Prime Time documentary, these are poised to be supplanted by the even more politically dangerous issue of how we as a State treat the smallest of our children.
Although the dominant feature of the national response to the Prime Time revelations consisted of dramatic "never again"-style promises from the Taoiseach and Frances Fitzgerald, the issues surrounding how we care for our children are too complex to be sorted out by doe-eyed promises of a better future from Lady Frances, their benevolent protector.
