John Downing: Meath East voters will put staying power of a brittle Coalition to the test

LABOUR is showing all the signs of wanting the post-match analysis before the Meath East match is even over.

It is no surprise to know that things look bad for the junior coalition party as voters go to the polls in the Meath East by-election today. But yesterday it became very clear just how quickly this could spell big trouble for the Coalition Government's staying power.

True, it is not entirely astonishing to find a dirty great Fine Gael-Labour row rounding off a tough and low-key by-election campaign in which the government partners are competing for votes.
