John Cooney: The Jock's on us -- our patron saint is really a Scot

John Cooney

St Patrick was born of Roman parents in the west of Scotland.

ST Patrick's Day should really be celebrated as St Jock's Day. St Patrick was a Scot, not an Irishman. A prototype for Billy Connolly without the bad language and the smutty stories. No kidding. Naw, it's not April Fool's Day, yet.

As God's representative on this newspaper, your Religion Correspondent can reveal ex cathedra that St Patrick was born circa AD372 on the banks of the River Clyde at Old Kilpatrick, near Dumbarton in the west of Scotland.
