PRESIDENT Michael D Higgins turned up 10 minutes or so before his scheduled arrival time of 11.30am at Temple Bar Gallery and Studios in Dublin on Wednesday morning.

In The Star newspaper that day, there was an account of how the President seemed annoyed with the economist and journalist Dan O'Brien, who had written an article critical of a lecture that Mr Higgins had given at Dublin City University last Wednesday fortnight.

In his contribution – 'Towards an ethical economy' – to a lecture series, President Higgins reaffirmed what he had said in the early days of his inauguration, that his presidency would seek to "develop an ethical discourse" that placed "human flourishing at the heart of public action".
