It's all talk but no comment from the senator
As he wrapped up his short speech to announce his withdrawal from the presidential race six weeks ago, David Norris quoted from Samuel Beckett. "Ever tried. Ever failed. No matter. Try again. Fail again. Fail better," he recited solemnly.
Well, six weeks is an aeon in Irish politics, particularly when it comes to the increasingly riotous roller-coaster that is the presidential election. For yesterday the skittish senator was maintaining an almost total silence -- apart from a two-word mantra -- on his plans, which would have made Sam a proud man.
The senator was smoked out of Leinster House's corridors and on to Kildare Street yesterday afternoon by an invitation to accept a petition of 10,000 names collected by a team from the We Want Norris campaign.
