Isolated Micheal is surely living on borrowed time
AS the sun shone in Arbour Hill for the party's 1916 Rising Commemoration, Micheal Martin did his best to laugh off suggestions that he is living on borrowed time as leader of Fianna Fail.
Yesterday's story that Public Accounts Committee (PAC) chairman John McGuinness has told Martin that he wants his job gave focus to considerable internal disquiet about where the party is going.
McGuinness has confirmed the story that he essentially put Mr Martin on notice. He may ultimately not have the support to make it to become leader, but McGuinness certainly has it in him to determine who does. Stagnating in various polls over several months, a number of Martin's chief lieutenants openly criticise the leader, saying the party has no narrative, no direction.
