Irish men need to face the truth about prostitution in this country
We must not sit back and turn a blind eye to a crime that trades women and children, writes Joanna Kiernan
MUCH of the talk, following the garda sting operation in Limerick recently, in which two female gardai impersonated prostitutes, has been negative: negative towards the gardai, negative towards prostitutes.
There has been much empathy for the 27 men involved, especially when the names of the 21 charged with soliciting prostitution ended up in the papers.
Of course some of these men have families and loved ones who are liable to be in shock, horrified perhaps. And then there are those I would presume whose convictions were met with a shrug of the shoulders, maybe even a slap on the back.
