In fact, the kicking had begun on Tuesday, when one of the most senior regulators in the Central Bank got stuck into the banks for their sullen reluctance to tackle the nightmare of mortgage arrears through the Mortgage Arrears Resolution Strategy, otherwise known as MARS.
