Government and citizens in real State of disconnect
Guerin Report highlights the lack of Government action that leaves people with little option but to take the legal route
Three years ago last month, Lorraine McCabe, the wife of Sergeant Maurice McCabe, sat down and wrote a letter of complaint to the then new Justice Minister Alan Shatter.
She said she was writing to express her disgust at the "conduct of certain gardai in Mayo", which the Guerin Report described as "a matter which attracted some public attention at the time".
In fact, Mrs McCabe's disgust related to reports concerning gardai and two arrested women from the Shell to Sea organisation based in Kilcommon, Erris, Co Mayo, which opposes the proposed construction of a natural gas pipeline through the parish.
