Getting rid of Melanie could cost Unicef in the long run

As goodwill ambassadors show their allegiance to the sacked executive, the charity is losing face in the media, says Liam Collins

HER voice was soft but definite when I called her in the early afternoon of last Saturday week to ask if she had been sacked as executive director of the charity Unicef.

"I can confirm I have been dismissed -- I cannot say anything more," she answered, firmly.

It was a stunning and unexpected confirmation to a story that has now held people enthralled for a week.
