THERE might be some Trapattoni-style issues to be confronted by Fianna Fail leader Micheal Martin in the wake of his party's very flush performance in this week's by-election.

Having reaffirmed FF's position as the primary party of opposition in the Dail – and in the process nudging Sinn Fein distinctly sideways – should he adopt a cautious and steady Trap kind of game plan going forward?

Or should he unleash his frontbench and really go for the coalition jugular, now that a potential fissure has emerged, in the immediate to long-term focus of the two government parties?
