Forget the dynamism, we would settle for competence
The cynicism of Cowen's commitment to a 'dynamic' public service is staggering, writes Jody Corcoran
THE Taoiseach put out a statement at 8.01pm on Thursday last -- a classic of its kind, announcing the resumption of talks between his Government and the public sector unions.
The unions had threatened to bring to a standstill the functioning of the Oireachtas this week by refusing to send emails, or whatever it is they do to make that place tick along, as it has always ticked along, in a fog of polished brass and overheated radiators.
Shortly after Cowen's email was dispatched to inform us that emails would continue to be dispatched, it emerged that 3,500 letters from GPs to consultants at Tallaght Hospital had not been opened.
