Fergus Finlay: Our young people, especially those in trouble, must be both seen and heard
THERE are many widely held beliefs about "young people today". Each generation has its views about the generation coming up behind it and the deficiencies it sees in what they do and how they do it.
It's all too easy to dismiss young people; you hear it all the time in low grumbling about their lack of respect and the fact that they don't listen.
This is most prevalent and insistent when it comes to young people whose behaviour brings them into contact with the law. I could spell out the kind of language you often hear about them but I don't particularly want to write it down.
