Even a vapid message is fresh air in 'No we can't' country

Barack Obama definitely has the charisma of a rock star. Unfortunately, he also has a rock star's tendency to churn out his old hits for the fans on world tours.
Not that the crowd in College Green last week seemed to mind. By the simple innovation of saying it in Irish, the US president managed to have the Irish eating out of the palm of his hand with the same slogan with which he won the 2008 election: "Yes we can ... Is feidir linn."
Admittedly, three more words of an cupla focal than most of the crowd had uttered themselves in years. It was like putting a green hat and beard on Uncle Sam and announcing that he was now a leprechaun.
