Enough of the porkie pies Pat – it wasn't what we ordered

Eilis O'Hanlon

IT was fitting that Pat Rabbitte was the first Labour minister out to try and explain Labour's massive losses in Meath East.

Fitting – beause it was Rabbitte's persistent policy of acting as protector and PR man for Fine Gael whenever it was in trouble that left Labour looking like lackeys on every major issue over the past year.

Pat seemed to have food on the brain last Thursday at the count centre in Ashbourne as he lamented how Labour – which went from topping the poll last time to losing its deposit this week – was getting the blame unfairly for the state of the economy, despite all the marvellous things it has done out of the goodness of its heart to fix the mess inherited from Fianna Fail.
