Echoes of 'Lisbon Treaty One' as tough opposition meets lacklustre campaign
FINE GAEL senators are already whispering that the Seanad abolition campaign could be Taoiseach Enda Kenny's 'Lisbon Treaty One'.
That was the 2008 referendum when there was a lacklustre campaign, an opposition group that came out of nowhere and a strong anti-Government mood. And it ended in a humiliating defeat for then Taoiseach Brian Cowen, who had his authority instantly eroded.
Many of the same factors are in play once again.
