Eager Eoin bids to open doors on by-election trail
EOIN Holmes's attention was riveted on the row of front doors in the small, well-kept housing estate in Ashbourne. He stood poised as red-jacketed canvassers, plus party colleagues senator Ivana Bacik and local Meath East TD Dominic Hannigan pressed doorbells.
"Door number one!" he exclaimed, haring off up the drive as the first portal swung open. His enthusiasm was as rare as a sunburned face on St Patrick's Day – even more so as it was emanating from a Labour Party candidate.
For the junior coalition partners are hunkered down deep in the trenches these days, battered from two years of brutal budgets and skirmishes with Fine Gael.
